The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Unable to publish web. Error Msg: unable to open url

Tags: Microsoft, FrontPage, 2002
OS = Wndows XP Pro SP2

hosting service = godaddy.com

I'm trying to publish a web in FP 2002
...have tried many times; no luck
...have deleted files from "My Webs" folder  started from scratch many times; no luck

Here's the error msg i keep getting:
Unable to open http://www.xxx.com.
Server error:  The web server at http://www.xxx.com does not appear to have FrontPage server extensions installed.

Possible causes:
1.  The web server may not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.
2.  The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3.  If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be incorrect.
4.  An error may have occurred in the web server.

If this server does not support the FrontPage Server Extensions, FrontPage may still be able to publish to the server via FTP.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled FP extensions @ Go Daddy admin site.
I've opened IIS, & tried Check Server Extensions; results = no problems found
i've reinstalled FP 2002 on my pc; no luck
i installed on another xp pro SP2 pc and i still get the same error msg

...not connecting through a proxy server
....can't publish as ftp

The error msg pops up immediatley after clicking ok on the publish detination dialog box.  The URL is correct.  I'm never prompted for a password.

Any ideas on what i'm doing wrong?

THX!!!!!!

thx for helping cs97iim3!

ok, i reviewed coreybryant bit.  per coreybryant's suggestion, i uninstalled & reinstalled fp extensions since i had tried to ftp the site

now when i try to publish the web, i get a new error msg:

An error occured accessing your FrontPage web files.  Authors - if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this server's site.  WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more details.

underneath this dialog box, i can see the Publish Web diag box w/ correct file location (mydocs/my webs), and can see the correct url to publish to

i click OK on the error msg & as noted in my original question, the Publish Destination box pops up again and shows the correct url.

i click OK

same "Unable to open http://www.xxx.com.
Server error:  The...." error msg pops up again

i didn't mention in my original msg that if i ping the url - no issues

thx again for te help!
