The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Compatibility display issues with MS Photo Gallery and Firefox

Tags: Frontpage, 2003, Photo Gallery and Firefox
I have developed a web site using Frontpage 2003.  From what I understand, to help maintain formatting it is a good idea to use tables which I did.  Within a cell of the table, I inserted a MS Photo Gallery.  The adjacent cell I have some text.  I have a number of thumbnails which IE or Photo Gallery handles well because it displays what it can within the cell and adds little tabs to scroll the thumbnails it can not display. Everything looks great in IE but when I view it in Firefox the formatting falls apart.  Firefox seems to ignore how the gallery is handling the thumbnails and just adds all of the thumbnails across the page which widens the cell beyond the formatting that I specified and everything falls apart.  Is this a problem with MS Photo gallery, Firefox, or how I am using tables?

It occurs because ie and fire fox determine frontpage code slifgtly differently.
There are a number of solutions.
1. Dont use frontpage use only xhtml compliant code.
2. Create a smart page which will detect the users browser type and serve it with an alternative page which displays correctly in firefox. This feature is found in Frontpage behaviours see here.

Building dual pages seems redundant and counter productive, but I guess that is what we need to do.    Thanks again Microsoft!  Microsoft has replaced Frontpage with Expression and presenting it as a tool to build Starndard web pages. Is that a better option or should I use Visual Web Basic which works with ASP.net?  Will I run into the similar problems?  My guess is yes because Microsoft wrote the components, but since I am familiar with VB and VBA code, I should be able to steer away from components that do not work.  This seems like it would be a smaller learning curve.

You get the points, just wonder if you have any experience in Visual Web Basic and can give me some insight on problems before I spin my wheels going in a wrong direct again.

Hence the expression " its a microsoft thing". ther are other builders which produce xhtml1.1strict such as site studio 6, expression web will do the same but again being ms code you need to keep an eye on it in other browsers as you build. Visual Web Basic is just an extended version of the others, i dont use it for that reason.Glad I could be of some help.
