The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Native SATA Mode/AHCI on HP xw6600 Workstation Not Functioning

Asked by WinkIT in Drivers, Windows XP Operating System, Computer Hard Drives

I've been tasked with creating images for our new HP xw6600 Workstations. In the past I have had no issues using the F6 method of loading the SATA drivers in during the Windows installation.

Unfortunately, using any combination of methods to install the SATA driver has failed.

HP provides a package on their website at:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=3432821&prodNameId=3432822&swEnvOID=1093&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=wk-56290-1

I have used the included floppy utility to copy the necessary storage drivers and loaded them up with F6 at the beginning  of the install. I have gone as far as slipstreaming the drivers into an SP2 and SP3 XP disc and neither has worked. Once it attempts to start the install it just blue screens.

The last method I have tried was installing the OS under Separate IDE mode and Combined IDE Mode (emulates IDE)  and after I got the machine up and running, I inserted the SATA drivers in Windows, restarted to the BIOS, enabled SATA and booted the machine up. At this point it just blue-screens again.

I've called HP support and they are clueless on this subject, just advising me to disable SATA and let it run in Combined or Separate IDE mode... These machines run fine with SATA enabled on Windows Vista, so I am positive it works as is. Any ideas?Start Free Trial
