Great Britan or USA who won the second world war.

I find this interesting, my brother in-law who is an American jokes that I would be talking German if America didn't come into the Second World War and save all our behinds. The British that is. While I accept that America had a prominent part in the war, I can't accept that if they didn't come into it I would be talking German.

Now the way I see it is, that while Great Britain and their allies were fighting for the first half of the war, the Americans sold us there weapons and watched on the side lines, while draining Britain of its reserves. Then once the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbour and they got a bloody nose decided to give us British a hand. I can understand that the war had nothing to do with America in the beginning. But it didn't have anything to do with Great Britain either at the start. We saw that after Poland was invaded, that Hitler was on a mission.

Anyway the point is, Would Great Britain Have win the war without the Americans help, or would the British be talking German today.
