Hello all,
I have been trying to install ISA server, to give me more flexibility and control over my Small Business Server's Firewall with VPN connections mainly in my mind that will benefit.
As I mentioned in a different topic of mine, I installed ISA 2006 and at the time, (yesterday) I had sp2 on my OS (Windows Small Business Server 2k3 R2). I read on here, after much web searching, that ISA 2006 and sp2 have issues regarding RPC.
So I removed sp2 from my server.
then I couldn't get MMC to open ISA Server Management, as it had rolled back to a previous version and ISA didn't like that.
So I removed ISA Server 2006 from my machine and then found out I could have just updated the MMC to v3.0 and it'd've opened.
So that's the history.
Anyway, I tried re-installing ISA Server 2006 today and it installed the Core Components fine, nice green tick there. Then it moved on to the Additional Components and sat there for what seemed to be hours and didn't seem to be doing much, all I saw were the rotating gears and no other information, just the black arrow on the Additional Components.
I eventually got fed up, cause my users had all arrived and had no access to the server while this was happening. After a restart, I removed it from my server and re-ran the CEICW and all was well again. But I don't have ISA :(
My first question is: How long does it usually take to complete an iinstall of ISA?
My second question is: When I had ISA installed yesterday, I couldn't run CEICW once it had installed, I clicked all the setting but iit failed on the Network Configuation component when it was trying to invoke the changes. Is there any reason for this? was that an issue with sbs2k3 sp2 also?
Thank you in advance and I look foward to your responses, as it looks like quite a nice bit of software when running.
Blessings,
Simon
