ICMP filters on Tasman (Nortel) 1004 Router

Asked by mariellengipson in Network Routers, Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP)

Good Afternoon - During a recent test, our auditors picked up the fact the ICMP timestamp requests and ICMP timestamp replies (categories 13 and 14) should be blocked or filtered out on our Tasman 1004 router (now Nortel).  He was unable to give me any specifics on how to do this since he is not familiar with this type of router.  And unfortunately, I am unable to get any sort of help from Nortel support.   The auditor did say that oftertimes routers don't have the ability to shut off specific ICMP categories and the router software has it all bundles under the ICMP heading.  Does anybody out there know of the command that will shut off ICMP or the specific categories on this router?  I have downloaded the command guide but really couldn't figure out a lot of it.  Also, the auditor said depending on the router, that will also disable ping and traceroute.  Is this also the case?  Thanks so much in advance.Start Free Trial
