The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Restricting Outbout SMTP email from singel IP

Asked by hereford in Enterprise Firewalls, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)

Tags: , , ,

I am trying to setup our SonicWall 4060 Pro to only allow smtp email traffic from a single internal IP address assigned to our email server.  I also want to restrict outbound smtp email traffic  to a public ip address other than our main public IP assigned to our WAN X1 interface.  Here is an example setup of what I am trying to do.

Public IP 64.50.50.250
Public IP's I can use 250-255

Internal IP's
Address range:177.17.1.1-254
Subnet               255.255.255.0
Gateway           177.17.1.1

Email server 177.17.1.45

All internet traffic except for smtp email traffic uses public ip 64.50.50.250
I used the public server wizard to setup the email server to use public ip address 64.50.50.254

I created firewall rule to deny all smtp traffic from the lan to wan 64.50.50.250 addigned priority 6
I created a firewall rule to allow all smtp traffic from the lan  source (my internal email server) to wan 64.50.50.254 assigned prioriity 5.

I am still seeing smtp traffic on going out on public ip address 64.50.50.250.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
