The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problems publishing XBAP in Visual Studio 2008 SP1 RTM

Asked by Intelliwave in Visual Studio, .Net Editors & IDEs, .NET Framework 3.x versions

Hi all,

I am developing an XBAP (WPF) application using Visual Studio 2008 and I recently updated to Visual Studio 2008 SP1 RTM (had been using the Beta version of SP1 for a while).  Ever since I updated VS, I have been having the publishing problems described at https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=318702 .

Though the information says that there is a fix for this in the SP1 RTM release, the opposite seems to have been true for me.  The work arounds provided at the connect site let me publish, but the following happens: when I run the .xbap from the local folder that I published it to, it works fine.  However, when I upload it to the server where it is supposed to live and try to run it from there, the message "Windows Presentation Foundation Host has stopped working" and it says that "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem".  After a while it changes the second message to "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  The program was never started though.  Whatever internet page I was on before I tried to go to the XBAP is still showing in the browser window; I never get to that download page for XBAPs.

I've tried everything I can think of short of going back to an earlier version of Visual Studio.  Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Note: This project was under source control, but I detached (removed) it to eliminate that as the problem.Start Free Trial
