*** WINAXE PLUS WITH RHEL3 AS (MOUNTED OR LOADABLE ISO'S) + CPANEL?

I have the complete WinAXE Plus installed on Win Server 2K3 DC.

Does/How/Is it possible to mount or load directly the Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS 3 ISO's?

Also assuming this is possible what might I need to consider when installing cpanel for successful client interaction?

I only want to do this untill the Windows cpanel comes out - any ideas when?

*WinaXe Plus
Using WinaXe Plus you can open a remote session on a Linux or Unix box, where the ISOs can be mounted remotely, using a command like:
mount -o loop -t iso9660 filename.iso /mnt/iso

Or you can mount the ISOs locally on your Windows box using Nero or similar.  But WinaXe Plus can't help you open the ISOs locally, as it's just an Xserver, not a full Unix implementation.

What do you want to do with the ISOs once they're mounted? And where does cpanel come into it?

Finally, Cpanel Inc have not yet announced a date for the Windows version, though it is in development:
http://www.cpanel.net/
Ok, I've mounted disk1 with Alcohol 120%.

I want to install the entire OS on same server so I can install and use cPanel.

I don't know how to log on to the x server, how to create or use existing account details or setup the appropiate space/directories to install the OS etc.

All recommendations appreciated.

Thanks.

I used to have adual boot but that annoyed me.

My remembrance of running that OS or any on Microsoft Virtual PC was too slow or it made the host too slow.

Do you know if they've fixed this or if there's a fix or something better or similar.

VMware requires a clean install I think so I can't really do that.

If you can't install a linux OS too the same server with WinaXe (from what I undrstand from above) is there another app that makes this poss?

what about Virtuozzo from SwSoft. That's meant to be the only true VPS technology?

That's meant to bereleased today.
Virtual PC says it's not supported on my OS (Win Server 2K3 DC) - Is it absolutely great to install it anyway?
Service Pack 1 adds support for Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/downloads/sp1.mspx

VMWare workstation also support Server 2003:
http://www.vmware.com/download/

Eval version of both are available.  Give 'em a try.

The only other way I can think of to run Linux on Windows is Cooperative Linux:
http://www.colinux.org/
CPanel don't officially support that, and it's still a bit experimental for now.
Or you could run it on an older 7.2 version of Mandrake, which could run on a Windows file system using their "lnx4win":
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/lnx4win.php3

Newer versions of Mandrake no longer come with lnx4win unfortunately.  But Cpanel do support Mandrake 7.2, so that's an option for you.

Virtuozzo may offer true Virtual Private Server, but you don't really need that.  You only want a Linux workstation on which to run Cpanel temporarily until a Windows version comes out, right?

Any kind of virtual OS running on another OS is going to be slower than running it natively, especially as this is your DC, and probably pretty busy.  That's why it would be better if you could set up a temporary Linux box, run CPanel on that, and connect to it with WinaXe.  Have you got a spare PC lying around your server room?  Or can you borrow one for a few months?
I've gone with Virtual PC 2004 for now. 5.2 was meant to be better but I couldn't get it to work.

RHELSAS3 work 'alright' with about 345MB ram from 2GB total.

On first attempt it installed fine but when it came to first login startup/login attempt the graphics were completely out - making it unusable.
I couldn't find a command to fix this anywhere, Ctrl + Alt + Backspace exited X but then started it again, and I didn't understand Linux Rescue.
This was prob because I set the generic graphics to use 4MB at X configuration at the end of the install.

I have an ATi Radeon 9800 XT gfx card. There was no option for it in the configuration. On previous attempts I've tried using the Radeon driver with 128MB - the highest MB you can have but that doesn't work.

I've read the VESA driver works - which one is this or what other gfx config do you recommend?

The install process has just begun again.

I've only currently got access to very old Motherboards that only allow tiny HDD's (about 600MB!) so unless there's a work around/fix I wont be able to take that route at present.
I don't know why it doesn't keep the graphics settings used for installation. If I checked Skip X Configuration would it do this?

Thanks for helping me.

If I use OS for anything else I've found this guide for using X on Virtual PC 2004 http://www.computerbits.com/archive/2004/0600/virtuallinux.html
Glad to help.  Thanks for the points.
