The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

how to install the vmware fusion update 1.1.3 on boot camp partition

Asked by brevy in VMware, Bootcamp

Tags: , , ,

Basically, I'd like to know how to update vmware fusion from version 1.0 to version 1.1.3 on my boot camp partition under OS X 10.5.4, without losing any of the many customizations (having installed Office 2007, modified dictionaries, etc.) that I have done within the Windows XP virtual machine that I already have running with  vmware fusion 1.0 on my boot camp partition.

I don't find any offering from vmware of an 'update' file rather than a full install file (.dmg) for fusion 1.1.3.  So I downloaded the 1.1.3 install file and have started into the full install sequence with the hope that it would appear to recognize my old partition and offer to upgrade it, rather than start with a whole fresh install.  It doesn't seem to be giving me that option; in fact, it asks me which volume I would like to use for the install, and it only gives me the option of the 'Macintosh HD'-- and no option to install on the 'windows HD'-- which I just noticed is no longer appearing in my Finder under 'devices' as I remember it appearing in the past.... presumably it disappeared sometime after I did a 'remove and install' upgrade from OS X 10.4 to 10.5.  So maybe there is an issue with OS X 10.5 'hiding' the boot camp partition so the vmware installer can't see it.

What I want to do seems pretty basic, but I'm not finding any guidance on this from VMware's help pages or regular Google searches.  Any help much appreciated...Start Free Trial
